Sur5ivor (real poor i know, just trying to stick with 5 theme)

So last week I was in one of my usual sloth worthy moods, surfing the net watching the finest of youtube when I suddenly realised I know very little about how House music came to fruition. So for the next, oh 150 minutes, i watched a fifteen part doco 'The History of House Music'. If you have any interest in the whole 'House' music thing then I strongly suggest having a look. For me it was particularly significant as it helped me remember my origins of House music and electronica in general, who I have my sister and her old boyfriend Raf to thank.

Forming in 1989, the London based duo Leftfield were to become pioneer's in the Dance industry, bringing together a hybrid of House, Reggae and Dub while being among the first to incorporate vocals from guest artists. The duo have been often been mentioned in the same breath as electro legends Underworld and The Chemical Brothers, this puts it into perspective just how highly regarded these guys really are. Their first album Leftfield - Leftism was given to me at around the age of 14 and was to accompany me for many years. I'm gunna post their signature track of the album along with a link for the whole album as its a great listen.

Also at the age of 14 I was lucky enough to discover Drum n Bass through the theft of a burnt compilation Cd (thanks and sorry). It can be honestly said that since this Cd I have not found any other DnB I would rather listen to. Long a ago I lost the original Cd but the digital format has seemed to following me from computer to computer as I they have been inhabited by me over time. It is for this reason I feel I should share one of the tracks from the the comp, unfortunately I have no track names which sucks. Oh and if you like, ask and ill upload the whole Cd, cheers.

If were on the topic of influential house figures then I guess its only fitting to chuck a bit of Carl Cox into the mix. I think most people know who "the Three Deck Wizard" is and if ya don't then find out. He's been Deejaying since the mid 80's and has played at pretty much every major event since. Here's an edit of a track which one suspects ripped the base line from Donna Summer's - I Feel Love, which is a truly is a spectacle in its self.

Right, now for some new school shiz, these guys need no intro (check previous blog). Thats right the unstoppable Zombie Disco Squad, seem to be, well unstoppable when it comes to producing bangers, this track being now exception. Get around it, cos its good and stuff.

Last, one from me main main Jesse Rose.  After producing his hit debut album 'What do you do if you don't', which gave birth to countless classics, he's back with another fine tune. At the age of 14 Jesse Rose had ran his own club night with one of his first Deejays on the bill being none other then Sugar Daddy from Groove Amarda. He made his name by bringing the original influences of Chicago House and early Detroit Techno to the wheels of steel. Jesse was brought up listening to Motown Soul, Jazz and eighties funk, with the latter being quite evident is this particular track.
