5 mo fo yo ho

Yo, as some of may know I' am currently residing in the US, so this first track fittingly was discovered at a Super Bowl house party a couple of weeks ago. Yeah the kind of cliched house parties you see in the movies, red plastic beer cups, beer pong styled drinking games, American style chicken wings and nachos, coupled with good company made it a top night! Any way back to the music, Afroman, someone I'm sure your all aware of from his hit song 'Because I got High' has another classic. The Comical based rapper released his first album in 1999 and has been churning out albums solidly ever since. This track is appropriately named after a Malt Liquor 'Colt 45', cheap and nasty, but good for a laugh.

II: The xx, a London based 3 piece who could be described as some sort indie minimal chillout consortium. These guys met at the same school as Hot Chip and Burial attended and are still quite young all in their early 20's. Last year they received considerable hype with both Rolling stone and NME heaping praise on their debut album. So hopefully more good things to come from these guys. Thanks goes to Liam for the intro to these guys.

So this maybe third on my list but I think it has to be my favourite track at the moment. I enjoy this track for its heritage most all. Daphne Oram an employee of the BBC and a pioneer of electronic music and sampling started experimenting with tape recorders in the 1940's building new tracks from samples and paving the way for modern day electronic music. This track titled 'Snow' is a textbook example of how hiphop and the sampling revolution started (check out breakbeats to learn more). When listening to this track I cant help but think of all the artists that must of been influenced by Daphne, one that i personally can see alot of her in is Dj Shadow particularly his 'Entroducing' album. I urge you to read more about Daphne, as its quite interesting.

Im gunna put this one up to0, just cos i think it also is a rad track and i think if you listen to The Avalanches track 'Paplo's Cruise' you might hear a hint of it, i think i do??

Apart from Trash Kit being a cool name for a band I know very little about these guys as by the sounds of it their relatively new so i will just rip what little information i could find about them from last.fm. Well enjoy and lets hope they'll get an album out soon.

"Trash kit are Rachel A, Rachel H and Ros M, from London, UK. The two Rachels also play in the Madrigals, and Ros plays in Ray Rumours. They formed in 2008.

Mixing chaos and trippy melody in equal measure, Trash Kit are as jubliant as they are focussed. Vocals tangle with each other and highly expressive drum patterns, while guitar lines make for a serious adventure into the realms of party. So far they have a CD-R, which keeps selling out at shows, and they will be working with Upset The Rhythm on a new record shortly."
